For more than a decade, Luật Khoa has been telling stories that few dare to tell. We investigate power, explain the law, and shed light on issues that state-run media in Vietnam often cannot or will not cover. Every article we publish comes with a price: risk for our journalists and high costs to keep our work going.
That is why Shop for Vietnam was born.
The Story Behind It
Independent journalism is not a safe or easy path in Vietnam. Our reporters face pressures that go beyond deadlines and newsroom debates—they face real threats, censorship, and at times, personal danger. Yet they persist, because they believe Vietnam deserves a free press.
But ideals alone don’t pay for servers, legal advice, or the daily needs of journalists who dedicate their lives to reporting. We needed a creative way to bring in resources—one that didn’t depend on large donors or corporations.
That’s when the idea came: what if shopping itself could support journalism?
Instead of asking people to donate or subscribe, we could offer a simple way for anyone, anywhere in the world, to contribute—by turning their everyday purchases into a lifeline for independent media. And so, Shop for Vietnam was created.

Who Runs It
Shop for Vietnam is owned and managed by Lý Yên LLC, a U.S.-registered company I founded on June 5, 2025. The company’s mission is simple but ambitious: to generate revenue in creative, sustainable ways and direct it toward the cause of press freedom in Vietnam.
Naming the company after my home village, Lý Yên, was deliberate—it’s a reminder that everything we do is rooted in community and legacy. The company exists not for profit, but for purpose. Running Shop for Vietnam is one of the ways Lý Yên LLC fulfills that purpose.
